LA Times points out that "in 2003, an audiotape by Ayman Zawahiri, who succeeded Osama bin Laden as leader of Al Qaeda after his death in May, urged militants to attack the U.S., Britain, Australia and Norway.[...] Six years ago, many Muslims around the world and at home were angered when a Norwegian newspaper published cartoons from Denmark that protesters said insulted the prophet Muhammad. Oslo is also a contributor to the aerial campaign over Libya." Hmnnn...

ノルウェー首相執務室そばで現地時間金曜午後3時20分頃、大規模な爆発が発生、ノルウェー国内通信社NTBによれば「警察は爆弾が原因と断定、少なくとも2名の死亡を確認した」らしい（via AP）。爆弾の数は「1個かそれ以上」。けが人は15名。
爆発が起こったのは、首相執務室のある官庁ビル、大手新聞社本社ビルなどがひしめく広場だが、首相は自宅で執務中で無事だった。メインの官庁ビル正面に爆弾を仕掛けられた車っぽい黒い残骸あり。犯行声明はまだない。
関連があるかどうかは「？」だが、爆発のわずか数時間後にはノルウェーから約25マイル郊外の島Utoyaでも与党・労働党主催の青年キャンプに警官の制服を着た男が銃を持って現れ発砲、青年15名がけがをする事件が起こった（2名が死亡し、1人逮捕されたという報道もあったが、けが15名。首相の訪問予定地だった、との報道もある）。
なんでノルウェーが？ と思ってしまうが、LAタイムズはこう書いている。
5月にオサマ・ビンラディンが死んだ後、アルカイダのリーダーの座を引き継いだAyman Zawahiriは2003年の録画テープで「米、英、豪、ノルウェーを攻撃せよ」と兵士に呼びかけていた。[...]6年前にはイスラム系が「預言者ムハンマドに対する冒涜」と抗議したデンマークの風刺漫画（これか？）をノルウェー紙が掲載し、国内外多数のイスラム教徒を怒らせた。オスロはリビア空爆にも貢献している。
