米国の30代は親が若い頃より貧乏:30-somethings Worse Off Than Their Parents

The lost generation apparently is not only a Japanese phenomenon... Look at this!

The average household income has doubled in the US from 1983 to 2010, but that's not the case for people under 40.  Why?   CBS lists two reasons;  the significant drop in home ownership (11.1% in 1990 to 8.7% in 2012)  and college debts (tripled in the past decade).

US college tuition has increased by 500% since 1985 and now 60% of US college students borrow money for paying off tuition.  It's a dilemma 'cause a lot of jobs require a four-year degree, but it's a false promise if it comes with debts.   Debts can eat up their financial future...

親の代より金持ちになるのが当たり前のアメリカで、40代未満のGen-Y/Xはいくら働いても親の資産をこえられない暗い未来が見えてきた。

アメリカの平均世帯所得は1983年から2010年で2倍に増えたが、増えたのは47歳より上の世代で、下の世代はちっとも増えていないのだ。

ワシントンDCのシンクタンク「アーバン・インスティテュート」が今年6月にまとめた調査では、2010年現在ベビーブーマーより上の世代は27年前の同じ年代の人に比べ76~149%金持ちなのに対し、29~37歳は21%貧乏になってるのがわかる。

CBSが挙げてる要因はふたつ。

資産形成といえば家だが、30代以下の持ち家率は近年減少気味で、'90年には11.1%だったのが2012年には8.7%に落ちている(国勢調査)。

ふたつ目は大学の学資ローン。今は大卒じゃないと就職は難しいのでみんな無理して大学行く。米国の大学生の6割は借金で学費を払っており、卒業してもローン返済で首が回らないのだ。2004年3630億ドルだったのが現在は1兆1000億ドル(消費者金融保護局)―10年で3倍に増えた。
