Amazon Search Finds Microsoft

You don't see 'powered by google' wordings near Amazon search box since Sunday. The contract ended last week, and Amazon now uses A9.com provided by Microsoft's beta search engine, Windows Live. (Washington Post: Amazon Search Finds Microsoft)

On Monday, San Jose Mercury reported the relationship between Google and eBay is becoming strained as eBay's market share declines and Google offers similar services such as GoogleBase and Google account. "Last week, Jeetil Patel, an analyst with Deutsche Bank, published a note suggesting that Amazon had surpassed eBay during the first quarter of 2006 in sales growth - in effect stealing market share." If it gets worse, eBay might even consider taking the same path as Amazon took... at least that's what I feel.

When Google complained about MS IE7 that includes a search box set up to send users to MSN search service(New York Times), Yaron Galai at Web X.0. wrote, "Google is suggesting that Microsoft use its last real asset in the search war, which it has practically lost (13.2% market share and declining), and hand it away to Google so that it can, in essence, become a monopoly."(GMSV) Google's also promoting FireFox on its homepage (John Battelle's Searchblog: Google Promotes First Non Google Product on Homepage:"This promotion just undermines Google's argument when they complain to the Feds about Microsoft's default search in IE7."-comment by John Rodkin)

It's weird to see Microsoft playing a role of a counterpower to confront Google's monopoly. Things change, so does their rai·sons d'être.

(John Battelle's Searchblog: Google Promotes First Non Google Product on Homepageのコメント参照)。
