[Statement from Kiva.org] Due to a recent surge in support ignited by viewers of the Oprah Winfrey Show and readers of President Clinton's newly released book Giving, there is currently a shortage of businesses in need of loans. The Kiva.org staff and our Field Partners are working overtime to get more businesses on the website. In the meantime, thank you for your patience!
Today I saw a sudden surge in traffic from all around to my entry 'Kiva.org," which turned out to be viewers of NHK-BS's Special Report on Social Entrepreneurship. That seems like the first coverage of Kiva on Japan's TV program, which is a great sign.
BTW, they can now lend money even from Japan because PayPal got localized this year. Mr. Okano who invested back in March got the first confirmation e-mail to have received the payback. (As far as I know, he's the first lending from Japan.) When I accessed Kiva to lend money, I found the message above.

今朝はKiva.orgのエントリがやったら混んでる。四方八方からくるので「テレビだなー」と思ってたら案の定、SocialCompany Blog2.0さんからのメールでNHK-BSドキュメンタリーシリーズ“社会起業家”第1回が震源と分かった。
改めて見回してみてHit Okano氏が3月に投資してたことを発見！ 日本からもできるとは…氏の元にはもう初回返済報告のメールも届いたらしい。さすが、早業。
さっそく私も重い腰をあげてみたが、今サイトに行ったらご覧のように借り手は2人しかいない。なんでも、アメリカの茶の間の人気番組「オプラー・ウィンフリー・ショー」とクリントン元大統領の新刊「Giving」で紹介された勢いで貸したい人がサイトに殺到し、借り手の数が追いつかないんだとか。「Kivaスタッフ、フィールド・パートナー一同、残業体制で必死にがんばってます」と緊急メッセージがある。まさに嬉しい悲鳴。
それにしても目立つわね。このお二方も、まさかこうなるなんて思ってなかったに違いないけど…。ｗ
