アメリカの受験はマラソンだ：US College Application Marathon

Today is the deadline for UC admission.  After spending months editing and re-editing his personal essay, my son finally collected all his courage and pressed the send button  a couple days ago.

I miss Japanese college admission process.  You take one time entrance exam and that's about it.  No question asked about your extracurricular activities, social works, GPA or your parents financial status.  No essay  required. It has its own share of pressure, but US system is like an endless marathon...

カリフォルニア大学（UC）は今日が願書の締切日。作文の苦手な息子はエッセイたったの500ワードで何ヶ月も悩み学校の成績ガタ落ち…。

「オラ、いい加減にせい！GPA（学校の成績平均点）悪い子はエッセイ読まれる前に落とされるんだから何度書き直しても意味ないじゃん。どうせ誰も読まないって」と怖い親に恫喝され、それでもなんだかんだと粘って一昨日やっとSENDボタンを押した。アーメン。コンサルに代筆頼むよりはマシか…。

一発勝負で決まる日本の受験が懐かしいわ。
