Having fired the 'Chink in the Armor' headline writer, ESPN interviewed Jeremy Lin who helped the New York Knicks beat the defending champ Mavericks.

Rachel Nichols: When was the fist time you realized, "OK, it's not only one day on the back of the newspaper or that kind of thing. This is the thing. This is a phenomenon"?
Jeremy Lin: Maybe 5 days in it. I thought it was going to end at some point within the first day or two. But it just kept going. I was just amazed. Because I go to ESPN, NBA.com, and all these different sites just like regular by myself, and now I see myself on them. I'm just like "wow, this is weird." 'Cause every site I'm going, they say Lin did this and that. It's just a little overwhelming.
Rachel Nichols: Your 85-year-old grandmother is back in Taiwan and she's been stalked by paparazzi. She's like Britney Spears of Taiwan.
Jeremy Lin: Oh, I didn't even know that. That's crazy. I've leaned our private lives are not so private any longer. So, it takes a little bit of getting used to.
Rachel Nichols: What was it like the first time you're walking around and see someone wearing your name on T-shirt or jersey?
Jeremy Lin: I was shocked, 'cause actually I didn't even know they made my jersey. I didn't know they did it that fast, so I thought I was like... I had to look three times they customized that or... and then I saw a couple of others and I thought, "OK, it must have been made over night or something."
Rachel Nichols: What's the weirdest moment of your paparazzi moments you had?
Jeremy Lin: Stuff about me dating Kim Kardashian...I mean I have no idea where that came from.
Rachel Nichols: You don't think you're the Kim Kardashian type?
Jeremy Lin: Nah, I don't think I'm that type.
(1:55-)There were nights last year where I was just reduced to tears. I just couldn't take it anymore. And because from the outside looking in they're like, "Oh, you're fine," and "He's still collecting an NBA paycheck," and this and that. But for me, what really hurt was I felt like I had the ability to do it.
(About the difficulties facing Asian-American basketball players) You can't prove yourself one time. You can't have one good game and have everyone be, you know, "He's the real deal." It has to be over and over and over again. And, you know, it's funny, people are still saying, "Oh, he's quicker than he looks." And, I'm like "what does that mean? Do I look slow?" Or, people are always saying, "He's deceptively quick, deceptively athletic." I don't know if that's just because I'm Asian or what it is.
レイチェル・ニコールズ記者: 新聞の裏面に1日載って終わる一過性のブームじゃない、本当にブームになっちゃってるんだって気づいたのはいつ？
ジェレミー・リン: 5日目でしょうか。はじめは1日か2日で終わると思ってました。だけどいつまで経っても続くんで、もうビックリですよ。前はESPNとかNBA.comとかいろんなサイトを読む側の常連だったのに、今は自分がそこに出てるんで「おお、なんなんだこれは」と。どのサイト行ってもリン、リンと出てるんで…自分でもちょっと焦ってます。
レイチェル・ニコールズ: 台湾では85歳になるおばあちゃんがパパラッチに追い掛け回されて、台湾のブリットニー・スピアーズみたいな扱いらしいわね。
ジェレミー・リン: え、それは知らなかった。クレイジーですよね。私生活がプライベートじゃなくなってしまった…まだ少し慣れが必要です。
レイチェル・ニコールズ: その辺歩いてて自分の名前がついたTシャツやジャージ着てる人を最初見た時はどう思った？
ジェレミー・リン: 衝撃でした。自分のジャージ作ったって話もきいてなかったし…3回見直して「カスタマイズしたのかな？」とか思ってたんですが…また何人か着てたんで、「ああ、夜のうちにこしらえたかなんかだな」と…。
レイチェル・ニコールズ: これまでのパパラッチ報道で一番変だと思ったのは何？
ジェレミー・リン: キム・カーダシアンと交際中というの。一体どこからあんな話が出てきたんだろう…
記者: 自分をキム・カーダシアンのタイプだと思わないの？
ジェレミー・リン: い、いや、まさか、思いませんよ。
(1:55-)去年は弱気になって涙がこぼれる夜もありました、もう限界だと思って。外から見たら「そんな、よくやってるよ」「まだNBAから給料もらってるじゃないか」とかなんとかいうことだったのだけど、僕にしてみれば…自分にはやれるだけの力があるって気持ちがあったから、それが一番辛かった。
（アジア系のハンデについて）1回で自分の実力は証明できない。1回試合で活躍したぐらいで「彼の実力は本物だ」とみんな思ってくれると思ったら大間違いで、何度も何度も何度もやらなきゃ認めてもらえないんですね。あと変な話、今だにこう言われるんです。「へー見た目の割には速いんだね」って。それ聞くと「どういう意味だよ？ 遅く見えるのか？」って思っちゃいますね。あと毎度言われるのは「彼は見掛けによらず速い。見掛けによらず運動神経がいい」ってこと。単にアジア系だからこう言われるのかなんなのか、よく分からないですけどね。
