    The illegible parts are in Japanese font. If your OS supports multilingual settings, then you could switch the encoding to view them right. Basically they both are telling the same thing. Japanese texts look less voluminous, because they contain symbolic characters called Kanji that Buddhist monks brought back from China about 1500 years ago. Well, good luck for your Free University:)
